London Wilder Bio
One of the great things about Magic is that no matter where you come from, how old you are, what color you play, or how tall you are there is always a chance at a level playing field. Coming into his Local Game Store over a decade ago London was for sure the least intimidating player from the outside, being 10 years old and under 5 feet tall. Although he quickly picked up the game and started taking down FNMs. Starting on the back end of Dark Ascension, Magic was at its most competitive, and London loved the competition, despite his stature.
Favoring a more aggressive play strategy during his early years, the standard format is where he shined. Getting second place in a Grand Prix Qualifier after Return to Ravnica block wielding a green red aggro deck using his favorite card “Madcap Skills” to take down his opponents. If it wasn’t for a Gray Merchant of Asphodel, and his inability to see over the steering wheel, London would’ve received the first place and invitation to the Grand Prix.
It was in his 60 card prime that London took down FNMs, several pre-release, and many other tournaments that Introduced London to the format we know and love, Commander.
After his first commander deck being the Green and Black creature Skullbriar, London turned away from aggro and more towards control and combo. With Izzet being his most played color combination, and blue his favorite color of all. To London nothing is better than the three best words in magic “Draw a Card.” With decks like Mizzix of the Izmagnus and Animar being his two favorites of his time playing commander, utilizing blue to draw cards and combo off with the support of counterspells.
Now with the ability to play magic in person again, and graduating with a bachelor’s degree in English and Psychology, London has gotten back into the more competitive field, playing CEDH weekly and trying to get back into the limelight in 60 card with the format Pioneer, hoping to achieve his childhood goal of becoming a pro-player. Especially now that he can drive himself to tournaments and doesn’t have to stand on his tippy toes to reach the sleeves on the top shelf.
London’s current favorite commander is Kalamax, the Stormrise, which is his primary CEDH deck using lots of instants to combo early against his opponents. London is working hard to achieve PFC champion and strongly believes he will obtain and hold the title.
Thanks to his passion for the game, and the people it’s brought close to him along the way, London brings a strong will to succeed to the Phyrexian Fight Club as a player and collaborator.
