Brendan Sauer Bio
In Magic, it’s all about the storylines. Whether that’s in reference to the official magic story or just about what happens in a specific game of commander, the narrative is the most important part. And that’s what Brendan is setting out to do. Brendan started playing Magic back in 2012 and immediately fell in love with the game. But Brendan was no stranger to card games, having played MLB Showdown and various board games like Munchkin. A year later, he tried his first game of Commander and everything changed there. He realized that you could truly do anything in Commander (besides wishing for cards in the “non-existent” sideboard) and he began brewing some sick decks. His first deck was a Momir Vig good stuff deck which will always hold a place in his heart. Once Brendan caught the bug, that one deck turned into 2 and those 2 decks turned into 8… yada yada yada, the rest is history.
Alongside his love for commander, he fostered a competitive spirit, playing in official Magic Grand Prix’s and LGS tournaments. His achievements include several gameday wins and a top 100 finish at GP Las Vegas in 2015, earning him 1 pro point. Brendan might be the highest caliber player in the league based on this finish alone.
Brendan has a background in film, having graduated from the most prestigious film school in New Mexico, which led him to decide to create the league with a few colleagues. His technical skills, along with his knowledge of storytelling has really helped him hit a stride and create the Phyrexian Fight Club that you see here today.
Brendan’s favorite color is blue with an emphasis on control, which might be why he is the Commissioner of the league. While his first love is for control, he does love building janky combos and brewing up lore centric decks. His favorite deck is his Noyan Dar deck, which animates many of his lands, beats down his opponents, all while controlling the other players. Brendan hopes one day to become the PFC Champion, but until then he hopes to control the competition through meticulous planning and scheming. He is the Commissioner after all.
